The summer brought changes in the form of players and coaches. The revaluation of Neven Spahija, Matt Nielsen, Thomas Kelati or Kosta Perovic contrasted with a more austere reality of the club. In their place, Canary Islands coach Manuel Hussein took the bench, and quick moves in the offices facilitated the arrival of players such as Omar Cook, Dusko Savanovic, Robertas Javtokas, James Augustine or Jeremy Richardson, in addition to the renewal of Rafa Martínez, who would be named second team captain, along with Víctor Claver.
The initial injuries in the inside game forced to hire Bruno Sundov for a month, who will help with his experience.
The year began with an unprecedented event in the young history of Valencia Basket Club. The previous good season gave as a prize the access to the ACB Super Cup in Vitoria. Despite the short time of coupling of the new players, the effort made paid off and an important victory was achieved in the semifinals against Caja Laboral by 66-67, achieving the pass to the first final of the season. There, a very strong Regal FCBarcelona almost didn't give any option and forced the team to settle for the runner-up position 83-63.
Despite an initial victory, the season does not start as desired. The tough schedule and injuries meant that the team did not perform at its best in the first few games. With a 1-6 record in the ACB and 1-3 in the Euroleague, the bench was replaced. After two transition games led by Chechu Mulero, Svetislav Pesic will take over from Hussein.
With Pesic on the bench, Power Electronics Valencia will start a spectacular winning streak that will lead them to qualify for the Top16 of the Euroleague with a spectacular balance and with victories of merit such as those achieved in Athens against Panathinaikos or in Biella against AJ Milan. Dusko Savanovic will corroborate the pass with a historic triple against Olimpia in the last second, a triple that will be remembered as a historic moment in the memory of those attending the Fonteta.
At the same time that the historical pass to the Top16 was achieved, the qualification for the Copa del Rey arrived. Never before, a team had raised a balance of 1-6 to get into the 8 chosen for the appointment, this time, in Madrid. The spectacular reaction even led to the possibility of being seeded. The subsequent draw would have a matchup against Blancos de Rueda Valladolid.
Just before the Cup, David Navarro reinforced the team, coming from Sant Josep de Girona in Leb Oro, a shooting guard with great versatility in defense.
The Copa del Rey would take place in Madrid, where Power Electronics Valencia, already with David Navarro, eliminated Blancos de Rueda Valladolid in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinals to the host, Real Madrid, who would lose to Regal Barça. Semifinals with the feeling that the team was on the right track.
Parallel to the arrival of the Cup, the Top16 of the Euroleague was being played. The capricious draw paired the club against Neven Spahija's Fenerbahce Ulker and Matt Nielsen's Olympiacos. Zalgiris completed a group in which only the top two teams reached the quarterfinals.
The initial victory against Zalgiris at La Fonteta gave way to three consecutive defeats. The two away from home against Fenerbahce ULKER and Olympiacos and with the Greeks themselves in the return leg of the Copa del Rey at the Fonteta. The odds were complicated, but they were to win in Kaunas and wait for Olympiacos to do so in Istanbul to have options. The carom happened and the Fonteta registered a historic atmosphere against Fenerbahce ULKER in the sixth round. The goal, to win by more than 4 points, was achieved in one of the most spectacular atmospheres in the history of Valencia Basket, the stands dyed taronja. The videos of the different media that covered it, do not lie. Power Electronics Valencia qualified for the Euroleague quarterfinals.
Before the start of the quarterfinals, Darryl Middleton joined the team due to James Augustine's new injury. Middleton would help the inside game during the following 2 months, and despite his 44 years of age, he would do a commendable job on and off the court.
The ACB season progressed at a good pace, where little by little a place among the top 4 of the Regular League was consolidated. In the Euroleague, Real Madrid would be the rival in the quarterfinals. In the first two games, Power Electronics Valencia won the first two games to return home court advantage to the Turia. However, despite the pressure exerted by an exemplary crowd, the Spaniards took the third game. The Taronjas would force a fifth game in Madrid where more than 400 fans would travel, and where another 400 could not due to lack of tickets. Real Madrid would win the game.
The final stretch of the ACB served to consolidate the third place in the ACB, only behind Regal Barcelona and Real Madrid. however, the match against Bizkaia Bilbao was going to be disastrous. In a three-legged tie, the Bilbao team would steal the home court factor at the Fonteta, and would later win the game at the Miribilla pavilion, putting an end to the taronja season. After the season, it would be official the no continuity of the coach Svetislav Pesic.
